Flyover Mesh Update โ€“ February, 2026

๐Ÿš€ Flyover Mesh โ€“ February 2026 Update

Off-grid. On purpose.

Happy March, everyone! February was another big month for Flyover Mesh. Hereโ€™s the latest.

๐Ÿ“Š Community Growth

We now have 175+ members in the Discord. Thatโ€™s like 75% growth from the start of the year. The community continues to expand, and so does the mesh.

๐Ÿ“ก New Community Nodes

Two new community nodes went live this month:

Earhart โ€“ Thanks to JG and Named for the pioneering aviator born in Atchison, Kansas. This node is on the eastern boundary of Wichita, and connecting nodes as far as Butler County into the wider mesh.

Coming soon: Don Johnson โ€“ Our newest community node, coming online thanks to mesher Mindshift and extending coverage in the sout west part of Wichita.

Coming soon: Cliff Club โ€“ Burke is finishing up this node, which will help connect the area south of Wichita into the central mesh.

๐Ÿ’ฌ From the Community

One of our members, Grey, shared this after getting connected:

โ€œThis was the highlight of my month. But honestly going from looking at Meshtastic a year ago and realizing the framework needed to make it viable to be usable in a daily manner and adapting at a time that โ€˜surpriseโ€™ the groundwork has been laid is huge. Thanks to those who took the first steps so I and others can reap the benefits from that ๐Ÿ‘โ€

This is exactly why we build community nodes. A year ago, you might have bought a device and heard nothing. I know thatโ€™s how it worked for me. Now, messages are hopping across the city through nodes like all these community nodes, connecting people all across the city.

You helped fund these by buying from the links on our recomended device page. Several of you added your own nodes to the mesh. Others helped make the connections required to place nodes in high places.

๐ŸŽ‰ First Meetup Complete!

We held our first community meetup in February! It was great to finally put faces to node names and talk mesh in person.

The next meetup is now being planned. More details later in this post.

๐Ÿ“ป Wichita Amateur Radio Club

I spoke to the Wichita Amateur Radio Club this month about Flyover Mesh and Meshtastic. The presentation went well, and I made several new connections for potential high placements around the city. No doubt youโ€™ve seen more new members appear on the Discord from that event. And more community nodes coming soon.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Tools and Coverage

Our coverage tools continue to improve. You can see messages received and node contacts from bots around the city:

  • MeshMerge Coverage Map
  • Frood Bot Map: meshtastic.ekpyroticfrood.net
  • #mesh-map channel on Discord: Check if your messages are getting through.
  • bot response on the mesh: fl0v, HYDB, and HYDD are all set up to respond on the mesh to different commands. $ping $coinflip $8ball and $time will reply with short messages. While $weather and $quote will reply with longer messages to test areas for better coverage. Both the command and the reply will show in #mesh-map on Discord to give you a view from both sides.

Events

๐Ÿ“ March In-Person Meetup

๐Ÿ•— March 21, 2026 1pm - 3pm

Join other up in person with the community. Details here.

๐Ÿ“ป Mesh Net Every Sunday

๐Ÿ•— 8:00โ€“8:30 PM

Turn on your node, send a message, and see how far it goes. This is our weekly chance to test coverage and connect with the community. Hereโ€™s how it works:

  • Check in in Discordโ€™s #events channel with: your approximate location and node short name โ€œchecking in mid-town, k10nโ€
  • Send a message on the default long fast channel on the mesh, something like โ€œmesh net check inโ€
  • Watch for connections on the mesh
  • Report contacts you see in the Discord #events channel thread
